Nicolas Everrard has won the close fought Belgium round of the Giffard West Cup and goes on to represent his country and the final on 13 May, in Angers, France.
12 of Belgium’s finest barkeepers met at Hotel Thon in Brussels on 22 April, all supported by the Union of Belgium’s Bartenders and all looking to secure that coveted spot in the final. Representing some of Brussels’ finest cocktail bars, Le BAR XII (Hotel Thon), Le Crystal Lounge (Hotel Sofitel), Le Loui (Hotel Steigenberger), Aux 4 vents (Bar-Liège), Dolce la Hulpe and Hotel Amigo, each competitor had to produce an original cocktail that contained at least one Giffard Premium Liqueur.
Keeping a tight eye on time and judging each competitor on a range of criteria including knowledge, presentation and flavour were four very experienced and exacting judges, Sandrine Mossiat from Ambiance Magazine, Yves Van de Ven author of the Coolinary Blog, John Van der Pluym from Maison du Rhum – Giffard’s Belgian Distributor – and Bruno Giffard.
The recipe for Nicolas Everrard’s cocktail, Garden Party, will remain a closely guarded secret until after the final next month. Second place was won by Christos Spyridonos, from BAR XII at the Hotel Thon, with his Russian Iced Tea and third was taken by Elisa Muñoz Gonzales also from BAR XII, with her Sabor De Amor.
