Barcelona’s Boca Chica Bar is one of the best bars in the world.  It is also home to this year’s Giffard West Cup runner up, Sergio Padilla Molina.  Boca Chica is only a couple of years old but rapidly established itself as one of Barcelona’s brightest spots.  Located on the Passatge de la Concepció the bar draws praise for its décor and ambience as much as its fabulous cocktails.

Spain is now the world’s leading gin consumer per capita and unlike the UK where gin and tonics are usually and aperitif, the Spanish enjoy a G&T as a late night drink and its very popular with tapas.  Latin passion leads to generous measures and that means you can really taste the difference between gins, so a barman with a good knowledge of botanicals is a must.

There are few things better than a perfect gin and tonic but the Boca Chica’s cocktails will challenge that belief at every step of the way.  The extensive list combines classics and a number of innovative originals that are well worth exploring.  The bar’s shabby chic and soft lighting combine with a warm, energetic, yet mellow vibe that draws you in and it is all too easy to find the hours pleasantly slipping away.

Last week the bar hosted a film crew producing a series on great cocktail bars and barmen.  The first film will be available on the new Giffard YouTube Channel in the next few weeks.
