Kelly Papp and Krista Meri led a leaderboard dominated by the ladies at Giffard’s first Estonian Cocktail Competition. Not only was it our first cocktail competition in Estonia, it was Giffard’s first team event. One member of the team prepared a cocktail and the other a mocktail.
Organised by our Estonian partner, Jungent and the Estonian Barkeepers Association on 20 November, 11 teams of 2 gathered at the Von Stackelberg Hotel in Tallin to compete for that wonderful first prize plus a special bonus prize awarded by Giffard as the exclusive syrup sponsor. The technical judges were drawn from the Estonian Barkeepers Association while the special prize remained in the gift of our own Pauline Quigis.
The team format was a challenge in itself but each competitor had to work with at least one Giffard syrup, classic liqueurs were prohibited and the garnish had to be edible. Teams were allowed 15 minutes for preparation followed by 7 minutes to produce 5 cocktails and 5 mocktails.
Girls dominated the prizes! Kelly Papp and Krista Meri, Team Olympic Casino, took the top prize and first place. Second place was taken by team Küütri, Regeri Zoo and Otto Fomotskin and in third place was Anna Simasko and Loore Mengel. Pauline Quigis’ special prize, for best cocktail of the competition was awarded to Laura Kukk for her Klubi Bibabo. The jury also made three individual awards for best mocktail, cocktail and technique.
